KIA’s Investment in Mexico

Kia is investing 1 billion dollars in a car assembly plant in Pesquería, Nuevo Leon. With an additional 500 million dollars expected investment from key suppliers.

Kia’s plans to initially produce 300,000 units including models Forte and Rio by the second semester in 2016.

Estimated job creation in the area is over 9,000.

Pesquería is being rebranded as the new industrial hub of the state of Nuevo Leon with strong global manufacturers in steel, packaging and automotive manufacturing.

Mexico is rapidly positioning itself as a major automotive manufacturing and assembly hub, expecting to produce 3 million cars this year due to plant openings since 2013 for Nissan Motor Co., Honda Motor Co. Mercedes Benz and Mazda Motor Corp. Mexico today is the fourth-largest auto exporter, behind Japan, Germany and South Korea.

KIA’S ECONOMIC WINDFALL
